Community Outreach for Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive behavior. This pattern can include abuse of various sorts of one family member by another including:

  • physical
  • sexual
  • economic
  • emotional
  • psychological

Perpetrators of domestic violence have a goal to establish and maintain power and control over their partners and/or other family members. This violence affects people in every racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic group and includes people of all ages who have lived together or who have had an intimate relationship. Domestic violence often escalates in severity and frequency over time and can have serious health and psychological ramifications.

RISE is one of New York State's oldest domestic violence shelters, beginning in 1979. Their mission is to assist families who experience or are threatened by domestic violence and to increase the community's awareness of this pervasive issue. comprehensive, licensed domestic violence services to the Broome County area. Their services include shelter, hotline, advocacy, counseling, legal and community education.

The shelter is at a confidential location to protect the safety and privacy of residents.  We accept survivors of all gender identities and their children and are committed to ensuring our services are accessible and inclusive to all. Each family has their own private bedroom and bathroom in our shelter. Residents share communal kitchen and dining areas, living room and recreational space. We can provide transportation to get new residents to the shelter and to their appointments during their stays. Residents are provided with food and participate in meal preparation. We provide personal care products and toiletries, clothing for those who weren’t able to bring much with them, and formula and diapers for infants and toddlers. School-age children can attend school while at the shelter.

Rise offers confidential advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, whether or not they require shelter.  All advocates assist with safety planning, education about the dynamics of abusive relationships, referrals to our other services, help with community resources, and emergency assistance for necessities...court, police, child protective, & the department of social services.

"Our goal at Windsor Hills is to provide the families with so many wonderful natural bath and body goodies, and care for their home...no matter where they might be in the process of healing! We realize that some of life's emergencies make it a priority to at least just make sure that these families have basic soap. But we can make them feel a little more love by providing something extra special."
